Middlewood Way (Rosehill Marple) to Chadkirk Chapel From
the Middlewood Way go towards the main road and follow the NCN signs to Chadkirk.
Going via Romiley The route continues past the Chapel and up a steep hill towards Romiley where you will come to a steep set of steps leading up to the canal. These are difficult to carry a bike up, so probably better to carry on up the road into Romiley (shops & cafes) and return back down to the canal via the road between Sainsbury's and the Bank that goes through the Paper Works. Once through the works follow the track round past Hyde Bank Farm and then after 100 yards or so look for a narrow set of steps with a bicycle wheeling channel to go down to the canal and on to Marple. After crossing the Aqueduct over the River Goyt you shortly cross to the otherside of the canal. When you reach the 7th Lock you have 4 options. 1:- Back to Rosehill direct. Cross back over the canal by a narrow bridge and continue up the track opposite to a T junction at Oakdene Rd. Turn left and follow this road all the way to Bowden Lane. Turn right and over the railway then turn left onto Dale Rd. Continue to the main road and Middlewood Way is opposite. 2:- Visit Etherow Country Park. After about 100yards there is a gap in the wall to a track that leads down into Babyns Park which is below you and on your left. Follow this track through the Park and over the Iron Bridge and on the the main road in Compstall. Turn left and shortly turn right, by the Post Office and into Etherow Country Park. The way back is the reverse and then follow Option 1. 3:- Visit Roman Lakes. After about 100yards there is a gap in the wall to a track that leads down into Babyns Park. Where the track crosses a metalled road turn right and follow this to Brabyns Brow. Turn left then right at the traffic lights into Marple Bridge (cafes) and at the end of the shops a track on the right leads to Roman Lakes (cafe). After passing Roman Lakes continue until you reach a Pack Horse Bridge over the River Goyt. Cross the river and follow up to a main road which you cross to reach the canal and turn right for Marple and the Middlewood Way. 4:- Extension towards Macclesfield. Stay on the canal bank, cross Brabyns Brow and onward into Marple. The Memorial Park on the right takes you to Marple Centre (shops & cafes)., and onward to Rosehill and the Middlewood Way, or continueing along on takes you to the junction of the Peak Forest Canal for Whalley Bridgeand the Macclesfield Canal. Turnuing right on the Macclesfied takes you roughly parallel to the Middlewood way and on to Macclesfield. After about 1 mile the canal route can be left by a Marina where turn right to get back onto the Middlewood Way which you access by the remains of a station. Remember the general direction in which you are travelling and turn right here back to Rosehill, Marple, or left for Macclesfield.
