Sainsbury's Store, Hazel Grove
Cross the A6
into New Moor Lane (at side of Phoenix Public House) onto Bramhall Moor Lane.
right at the T junction onto a gravel track and proceed past a yellow barrier.
Take the 2nd road on the right (Flowery Fields-just before the allotments). At the T junction (No 12, a black & white ornate bungalow) turn right to another T junction. Turn left onto Woodsmoor Lane to a roundabout junction (CARE). Turn left onto Bramhall Lane South to the traffic lights junction and then turn right into Midland Road, then turn left into North Park Road (passing the shops).
At next T-junction turn right (downhill) passing the Tennis Club and over Ladybrook. Climb slight hill and turn left into Hall Road and onwards into the grounds of Bramall Hall - the Stables Tea Rooms are nice for refreshments.
Bramall Hall .
From the Hall head westwards into Hall Road and turn right down the hill and up the other side to turn left into Linney Road. After 100m turn right into Tenement Lane. (The last 300m can be freewheeled!) After passing under the railway bridge turn left at the T- junction onto Ladybridge Road. After 150m turn right at the entrance road to the March Hare public house.
Keep slightly right and follow the central path (Ladybrook Valley Bridleway) down to the bridge. Cross to the opposite bank (play area) to follow the river path. Pass another bridge to a left exit onto Radnormere Drive and turn right. At end turn right again onto Queen's Road. Take the 2nd left (Old Wool Lane) into trading estate. Keep left at junction shortly passing Golf Club on the right.
After 200m where road bears left, keep straight onto a path leading to road junction,( Cheadle Road). Turn right, taking care, keeping the Golf Club on the right and shortly turn left into Valley Road and then left again onto Bruntwood Lane and Bruntwood Hall. Refreshments available here whilst jets above fly low into Manchester Airport.
From the Hall head for Bruntwood Lane turn left to the bottom and turn right. Shortly turn left into Shiers Drive. At Cheadle Baths & Leisure Centre turn left into park path (black hoops). Exit park turning right onto Wilmslow Road and proceed into Cheadle Village. (Plenty of shops & eateries here).
At Traffic lights pass into the White Hart car park and exit onto Hall St, turn right to the corner (Funeral Directors) and then turn left into Brook Drive, passing the Drill Hall. Pass under the bridge. Turn right at path end, shortly passing the Alexandra Hospital and turn right at T- junction. Turn left at Car Sales Garage (just before traffic lights) and pass back under the railway bridge. Continue past a pond (on the left) and onto Abney Hall.
From the Hall turn left and proceed to park exit on Manchester Rd (take great care here). Turn right (advise children to cycle on the pavement) and pass over the motorway bridge to turn right at River Mersey Bridge down a short flight of steps and continue on this riverside path passing a trading estate shortly after a small climb. Pass a leaping wooden fish sculpture to a motorway bridge. Bear left up a shallow stepped incline to follow a track (noisy from motorway traffic) via a couple of chicanes to emerge onto Didsbury Road near "Pets at Home" and Staples" stores.
Motorway Junction 1
From Sainsbury's cross at traffic lights and turn right into Reddish Vale Country Park taking the tarmac surfaced climb uphill to a sandy track (alongside trading estate on right behind a green fence). Keep bearing right to pass through illuminated tunnel. After 200m turn right at large boulders to descend a steep red surfaced hill (Care). Pass under 3 motorway bridges and turn sharp left to a large Mill. Continue to road junction, (Welkin Road), and then turn left uphill (care busy traffic) to turn right at Osborne St just after traffic lights.
Otterspool Bridge (Car Park nearby)
( Short diversion here if you wish :- Turn left and use the crossing to enter Vale Road and after 1/4 mile you reach Chadkirk Chapel. Refreshments available at weekends. Return to main route)
Halls Route continued
Leaving the short cobbled area use the crossing to turn right to pass Garden Centre and Hare & Hounds pub. 50m after passing pub very carefully turn right into Bongs Rd (cattery & kennels), pass through farmyard up a steep climb to Marple Road, turn right and descend (garage on right) to a bridge over Poise Brook. Dismount to climb left bank shortly after bridge. Pass allotments on right side climb short grass bank and aim for large chimneys on Offerton Hall passing a play area. At road junction (Half Moon Lane) turn left passing a school to T-junction at Alfreton Rd.
Turn left to end onto a surfaced pathway between fields (Cow Lane) and to Sainsburys.
